Battle High School will be holding mock interviews for it’s AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) students who are preparing to enter the job market. AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing students for college readiness and success in a global society. AVID targets students in the academic middle. Students who have the desire to go to college but need additional support.
Adult interviewers are needed to facilitate this wonderful learning tool for these eager students. Interview questions will be provided and a brief, written evaluation of each student will be completed by the interviewer. “The AVID program is offered as an elective course, through application and selection process, to students meeting the following criteria”
Be described as one of the following:
–first in family to attend college
–capable of completing rigorous curriculum with support
–may be underrepresented in colleges and universities
–have a family situation that might affect opportunities to attend a college or university
Maintain a GPA between 2.0 and 3.5
Good classroom behavior
Capable of completing a course of study that fulfills college admission requirements
Motivated, with a desire to prepare for entrance into a 4-year college or university
As you know, we are becoming a society where personal contact is being usurped by cell phones and computers. This is an excellent opportunity to help shape a child’s future. Your expertise and insight will positively impact the students you interview. Please consider spending a few hours at Battle High School during the week of May 1st, 2017. You will feel great after this experience, and you will be very impressed with these students and the effort they have made to prepare for these interviews.
